News From Year 5 February 2016

In March, Year 5 will go on a trip to visit Hampton Court Palace.

This trip will be instrumental within our study of the Tudor Dynasty, which is part of our curriculum in History.

Led by a costumed presenter, pupils will explore the idea that Hampton Court is a palace of two halves. Children will learn to develop their historical enquiry skills and will use the palace as source material to investigate how the architectural features and furnishings reflect hierarchy and status within the Tudor court.

Year 5 will be allowed to access all palace routes including Henry VIII's Kitchens and Apartments, King William III's Apartments, Queen Mary II's Apartments and the Georgian Private Apartments.

There are two dates for this trip:

March 15th (5LC and 5MS)

March 22nd (5KH and 5NI)

We all look forward to a unique and invaluable learning experience in Hampton Court Palace.

Autumn Trip to the Science Museum

As part of our ongoing exploration of Space in Science, Design & Technology and Literacy, Year 5 took a trip to the Science Museum last week to view rockets and space vehicles left over from the United States and Russian space programs; an Imax film about life on the International Space Station and a 3D motion theatre experience simulating what it was like to fly in a rocket and to pilot a space buggy on the moon! Following their trip, Year 5 have been busy applying what they have learned and describing their experiences in their Literacy and Science lessons. Later in the term, Year 5 would like to invite parents to come and see some of the amazing work Year 5 are creating. Watch this space for further details!
