Year 2 and Year 4 students have taken part in African Drumming this month.

The students learnt about the origins of the djembe drum, the different sounds it can make and how to play a variety of rhythms. They also used their concentration and listening skills to play in a ‘call and response’ style where the leader plays a rhythm which the others play back.

Students were also given the opportunity to be creative and perform a solo bar whilst the others clapped the beat.

This workshop was a great way for Lyon Park students to build on their self-expression, confidence and communication skills.
