Early Years
Welcome to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Lyon Park Primary School. Our EYFS consists of an 80 place Nursery and a four-form entry Reception. We follow the Statutory Framework for the EYFS and its four guiding principles that shape our practice:
- A Unique Child
- Positive Relationships
- Enabling Environments
- Learning and Development
Early Years education is the foundation upon which children build the rest of their future learning. At Lyon Park, we work in partnership with parents and carers to ensure we build solid foundations.
There are seven areas of learning and development in the EYFS curriculum, three prime and four specific.
Prime Areas
- Communication and language development
- Physical development
- Personal, social and emotional development
Specific Areas
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
Children learn best through playing and exploring and they are encouraged to become independent learners through a balance of child-initiated and adult-led activities.
