School Council
Lyon Park School Council plays an important role in the decision making and forward planning at the school and enables all children to have a voice in whole school initiatives. Every child is invited to apply for the role of school councillor where they must write a letter to Ms Bhambra, detailing why they feel they would make a good candidate. Ms Bhambra, along with the SLT, then select 4 letters per class. Each class from Year 1 up to Year 6 elect one school council representative through a polling day similar to a general election. The results are then revealed during a celebration assembly where the school councillors are presented with their special jumper and notebook.

The School Council then meets every few weeks, allowing pupils to share their thoughts on the school. During the first meeting a Chair, Vice Chair, Bursar and Minute Taker are elected and the importance of the children learning to run the meetings themselves (under the supervision of an adult) is emphasised. The school councillors are aware of the important job of representing the ideas of their peers and making changes to help make the school a better place.

School Council Polling Day
This week we held our School Council Elections. Children wishing to be candidates gave in reasons for why they felt they should be elected to represent their fellow pupils. A shortlist was drawn up for each class of possible candidates.
Each child entered the polling station and placed a cross by their chosen candidate, just like the local and general elections.
We look forward to finding out who will be working to voice the opinions of their class over the coming year. Good luck to everyone!
